Wycliffe Big Head 2012- CANCELLED
It is with great regret that the Wycliffe Big Head 2012 has been cancelled due to the current and expected adverse weather conditions.
The ice that had formed yesterday had inititially disappeared by lunchtime, but this morning the majority of the canal both North and South of the Boathouse was frozen.
We would like to thank you all for your support and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Hopefully see you all next year.
Advance warning of conditions for the Wycliffe Big Head 2012 Unfortunately ice has formed on the Canal at the Wycliffe Boat House. It is currently north (away from the course) but is blocking the Wycliffe Landing Stages. At the moment the bridges on the course are clear of visible ice, but I am very concerned about the razor thin ice which cannot easily be seen but can really damage a boat. We are waiting to see what happens to the high/low pressure system over the UK as if it comes across on Friday morning, then the ice will disappear. I am sorry to be the bearer of this news, but I thought you would like to know our thoughts. Phil Clements The next event is the Wycliffe Big Head on Saturday 4th February 2012. It will be held under British Rowing If you require Sat Nav directions. The best address to use is: A map of the area is available at: www.wycliffehead.co.uk/sites/heads/files/WBH12-Directions.pdf PLEASE NOTE that there is limited parking for spectators. We have obtained as much car parking space as possible but this is limited. You must not park on the side of the surrounding roads. The Wycliffe Big Head is run away from the boathouse. The finish is approximately 2km (1.2 miles) from the boathouse and the start another 4.5km (2.7 miles).
